In the rapidly changing world of Search Engine Optimization (SEO), it’s imperative to stay up-to-date on the latest techniques that will enhance or enrich your veterinary website. With recent changes made by Google, including Hummingbird, particular techniques will have a greater impact on search engine rankings than others. Keeping this in mind, we will take a look at several ways to enhance your practice’s SEO, including: Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) pages, blog posts, and the integration of social media into a website.
Even though there is no concrete way to determine the techniques that work the best (other than a long term case study), at VetMatrix we have noticed the following three techniques tend to have a positive impact: FAQs, blogs, and social media integration.
Due to the increased usage of applications like SIRI, FAQs have grown in importance. Pet owners are asking complete questions of search engines, which then use their algorithms to try to closely match the questions with results. Using this logic, if you have a web page that closely matches the questions asked along with relevant answers (such as “Does my dog need vaccines?”), then your web page is more likely to show up in search results and rank higher.
Blogs are still relevant content pieces. It is important to be able to post fresh, relevant content on a weekly, bi-weekly, or even monthly basis for search engines to rank. Additionally, if the blogs posted relate to recently posted FAQ pages, or if the blog is an FAQ, you will see a further increase in rankings.
To be honest, if you haven’t jumped on the social media bandwagon, it’s time. Why bother with social media? Because it’s not going away so don’t drag your feet. Social media has continued to prove effective in generating website traffic, and more importantly, Google has increase the weight of having both a Google+ and Google Business platforms connected with a business. If you are looking to improve your rankings on Google, you need to integrate your social media pages now.
There is no magic formula for SEO, especially since Google continues to keep digital marketers on their toes.
